Hi all,
I have just completed the restoration of '73 E9. The problem I'm having is that is overheating.
The engine has been fully rebuilt, rebored, pistons etc. The cylinder heat was reworked by a competent shop, it was pressure tested and resurfaced. All new gaskets seals are new.
The radiator was re-cored.
The water pump, thermostat (80 Deg C) and all hose pipes are new. All parts are from Wallothnesch.
The fan assembly is the 5 spoke with friction clutch, it seems to be ok, by that I mean it works the same as that on another E9 which I have.
The coolant is the green type 50/50 with water.
I have refurbished a reasonable number of engines, normally with no issues.
The engine has been bleed using the bled screw.
On the open road it overheats after a few miles. I am assuming that even if the fan assy. was not working properly, it should have no effect on the open road.
I have tried driving it without the thermostat, it still does the same.
Has anyone had a similar experience / suggestions. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Seán.
