From our friend at Cswerk:

Type: restored, newly powdered in RAL 7043
Color: gray, RAL 7043
Material: original box restored, but boxes are available before and after the facelift.
(internal and external expansion element)
Other: the brackets are new yellow-chromated, new cover seal (half-round rubber)
corresponds to part number: 13 71 1 257 721

Hi all,

Could we all agree that RAL7043 is the correct and acceptable color for the air cleaners? All other colors are not right and leave it at that? This idea may get a few people upset because there may be differing opinions but wouldn't life be easier if this is the only acceptable color and we can all move on What do you think?

Thanks, Rick

Stan, I don’t trust that pic from 2004, the coupe had been painted a poor representation of Malaga so who knows what else was done to it.

I've color matched my air cleaner in a professional light cabinet with light protected colour swatches, and posted it's results on here somewhere, with an exact match and some that are close.

Thaid said, it could very likely be that multiple colors were used. Sometimes that paint can was just empty and your colleague forgot to order a new one.....
Now what do we have in that corner in the factory?

And between batches also variations could occur.

And due to the heat load, the colour today, even on the inside, isn't the colour how it left the factory...

So yeah, maybe a good idea to just agree on one colour.

My powder coater won’t mix colors so colors are limited, I prefer powder to paint which can be matched. I know of someone who mixes 7022 and 7043 and claims it is perfect. Find a powder coater who will do this.

Maybe it needs its own one sentence FAQ?
there is a sentence in the 'what paint color goes where' FAQ already. in the sentence below it lists RAL 7022 for the CSi air cleaner.

These items - warm grey with green tint (RAL 7043) - close, but not perfect
1. Air cleaner
