As I have started phase two of the resto job on (we'll call her Ursula... ;-) ) I have now torn apart the front suspension and began cleaning stuff up. I recall(?) that there was some previous discussion of the color of the paint for many of the suspension components.
I have restored several BMW's including 02's and my other coupe (25 years go!) and discovered that the paint color was something better described as dark-olive-drab-grey-green something or another. I at that time had the subframe 'scanned' for a paint match and had a pint made up. Surprisingly it was essentially a 'dead-on' match. I still have a couple ounces of the stuff but will have to have another scan done to match it.
Anyway after about an hours worth of degreasing, cleaning etc. I discovered that the original paint is, well in remarkably good shape and don't feel the need to repaint. (also has the requisite OEM yellow paint!)
I am including a pic of the now clean strut just to dispell rumors of what the OEM paint looks like (from a 1972). I have heard of others painted a lighter grey and black.
Anyhow, hope to have 'her' all dressed up for Legends! DCG
