I'm in need of a clutch slave cylinder for a '74 coupe. If one of you forum members has one I'm interested. Would consider rebuild kit if available. Also wondering if there are recommended parts vendors other than dealer (local dealer wants $300+ for slave cyl).
I was looking through parts forum and noticed a couple acronyms that I didn't recognize. Please translate: PM, WTB.

Thx Mark

With that cost you are being quoted I presume you have the external slave cylinder that mounts through a hole in the bell housing and activates a lever that goes into the clutch? If so there is a rebuld kit for that provided your inner cylinder is not all gouged up. It's inepensive and easy to do. Verify the slave type and I can help with the kit.

Yes steve, it is an external slave with pushrod through bell housing. Is there any other style on a 74?
I'd rather go with entire cylinder due to age, and I haven't taken it apart to check cylinder pitting. Do you have the complete cylinder?
Since my post I was perusing the web for vintage parts. Any feedback on Autoparts Warehouse, or Autohaus AZ? Both have very reasonable prices, with German sounding manufacturer names and advertise OEM parts.
I've just got my coupe out of the garage after 12 years, and need a variety of parts (engine/tranny seals, cv boot, e- brake shoes). So am looking for recommended parts vendors.
Thx for your help!
Mark

Just now seeing you're from NO!
I bought my '74 coupe in Baton Rouge in '77 from the dealer who took it in on trade for a 77 630 (I worked there). It has seen several Mardi Gras, and lived to tell the tale!
Cheers, Mark

Which one do you have? The top one is the one I called external, the bottom is the internal one (referring to the rod I think) and is much less expensive:

I've bought from AutohausAZ, they ship quickly and have good service as long as you do your research on the brand of part they sell. For certain critical wear parts like bearings and ball joints etc, then genuine BMW is the way to go IMHO. Tomkinson BMW having the best prices.

It hasn't changed much since then!

I have the bottom cylinder, the only one I've seen on 3.0 CS's. If I recall correctly the top one looks like a2002 cylinder. Maybe was fit on early E9's?

The good news is all drive train and steering parts seem to be in good shape;though I do have a slight knock and slack in the steering. Drag link and tie rods look good so I suspect the steering shaft u-joint. Haven't found one on-line yet. I'll check Tomkinson.

Cheers

I have the top one and fortunately was able to rebuild it because new ones are a couple hunj +
