I had the good fortune of stumbling across this video while flying cross country recently...
My parents had a huge collection of Beatles records, and I particularly liked their later albums, especially when I was playing in a jazz quartet and DJ'ng on WREK 91.1FM during my college days.
So, there's a great documentary on how a group of people spent years trying to find Paul's original '61 Hofner bass he purchased when the band was playing dance halls in Hamburg:

If you are able to watch the entire documentary on Paul's lost bass.. there are some comments in it, which remind me of a fabulous quote by @BMW Pete in that interview:
One of the people (the footballer) says something at the end.. and in my mind it's the equivalent of the red car comment in Pete's interview.
