Petrolicious CSL article

I am fortunate to be intouch with Mario the owner of that magnificent carb Golf Csl. Of all the cars specially Csl’s that have passed thru this forum, this is possibly one of the very best ORIGINAL survivors and some serious compliments to Mario for being such a dedicated custodian/ owner of a completely original E9, all the more so that it’s a carb Csl.
His story and the care he has taken not to modify, improve, or change anything is commendable as we all want to improve our cars in some form or the other. Not doing is a lot harder than doing.
An absolutely stunning story with a car to match. This is what a Csl dream would look like.

la mia macchina, non ha mai avuto adesivi csl, che corrono lungo la fiancata, non ha copertura in plastica ai lati dei sedili, allego la foto del cavo aggancio cofano, si vedono sicuramente i segni del tempo, la plastica il rivestimento è invecchiato, ma originale

I had doubts that I was certain not to have before.
I know for sure and undeniable
that the bmw e9 csL were all born with the double kidney with 5 black anodized aluminum strips.
this is what I have learned in many years of reading
and from hundreds of newspapers that I have in my archive relating to the csl e9 world
my interlocutor, also he, very prepared and connoisseur of the history of his csL to carbutatori
he claims with certainty that his csl has left the factory with a double kidney with 4 black strips.
these are obviously the classic questions of a person who is on vacation and wants to deepen their knowledge
I invite you to share your point of view

I could see a '74/75 CSL leaving the factory with a four bar grille. This could have been due to a parts shortage or a mistake. The CSL grille has it's own part number, so it seems unlikely to me that a CSL would get the wrong grille. Also, the four bar grille didn't exist until it was produced sometime in '73 for the face lift, so you a Carb CSL or early lightweight certainly wouldn't have left the factory with four bars on the kidney.

I thank Keshav again because he sold me a double kidney csL which I now put on. a photo,
5 lines black anodized
my kidney was ideally identical to the photos my grandfather had in 1973 with my car
but it had a small imperfection and i. sold to american user of this forum with csl second aerie
my ignorance leads me to think that some csl.carburettors had I don't know why 4 lines

Agreed. It could have happened, but it would have been a mistake or a compromise. Not as bad as leaving the factory with a steel hood, but you never know! :D

It is interesting that your hood pins look different from those found on later CSL's. I don't have any doubts that they are original. I hope to one day have a carb CSL tribute and this just complicates things. :D
 
Hai prestato attenzione a quante CSL successive, hanno il blocco del cofano sportivo a sgancio rapido, con una vite diversa dalla mia, ma anche i fermi del cofano con apri cofano dall'interno dell'auto, con cavo bowden abolito? forse hanno vite diverse dalla mia
 
Does the car have air conditioning?

Good wye! Looks aftermarket with vents near the glovebox. Perhaps Mario can post pics of the setup. I wonder if it is a period update or happened later in life. Seems like aftermarket AC’s had a short lifespan as a stand-alone product. Kind of like aftermarket cruise control kits.
