From the cousins in Stuttgart, my favorite one from the Porsche werks reunion
I agree with you on this Bo even though I didn’t make it the Werks. I saw this car on Tuesday at the Carmel Concourse and talked at length with the owner. It is a very rare 1951 Pre A 356. Now restored it may be the only one on the road. The new owner was a Pro Stock Camaro guy who totally flipped interests to this 1300 cc piece of history offered to him by his neighbor. He sold his Camaro and learned all he could from scratch to restore this beauty. Sourcing parts was a huge challenge and he had to resort to fabricating some. I’m not really a 356 fan, but this is a special car with an amazing restoration by an amateur. It even has wood interior side window trim that didn’t make it to the A.

I didn’t take too many pics at Legends either. The venue was pretty crowded and display cars like mine unfortunately had to park in a dusty dirt lot due to the last minute change in venue. It was a great collection of cars though, and I got to meet several Forum members. It was especially nice to have HBChris give my car a once over and give me some pointers. Only six E9’s by my count including a twin to my car owned by David parked thirty feet from me. It’s amazing that the venue change was pulled off so successfully. Many thanks to those that spent untold hours last week making it happen.

To me the most amazing car and story was the 1939 328 that got relegated to the dirt under a tree due to a registration mix up. The car was purchased by the pictured Corona California Indian Reservation raised Native American serviceman in Germany after WWII for $800. His two sons are almost done restoring the car and the whole family was there. They’re are a close wonderful middle class family from the St. Louis area with a very valuable treasure that they won’t part with. The owner was holding court with entertaining stories for anyone who showed interest. He’s still very bright and funny. What a great story. I saw the car but did not catch this awesome background.

Final day. The looooong trek to Pebble beach. An hour of sitting in traffic just to find a parking space. Then a very long walk to the concours village. Needless to say, lots of eye candy both on the lawn and around it.

First, in the concept car area, the ultra cool Skysphere Audi protoype. Electric of course, with the ability to switch from a sport mode, in which case the wheelbase automatically shortens (!) to fully autonomous in which case the steering wheel and pedals disappear, as seen here.

Then the rebirth of the Countach. The iconic 70s supercar is returning as a super supercar with a hybrid power train delivering over 800hp. Only 112 will be built.

I’m not a big Ferrari guy but the factory had brought 36 of their stunning limited production (around 500 I believe) Monza SP1 and SP2 speedsters. I have to say, these are splendid looking cars. Uniquely for Ferrari each one was a different color. SP1 is the single seat version and SP2 for the two seater, no windshield beauty.

On the lawn, amidst a sea of mostly pre war incredible vehicles, a stunning red 507.

And, speaking of stunning, a word which will be used incessantly today, I could never get tired of this one, the beautiful Bugatti 57S Atlantique from Peter Mullin’s collection, one of 4 ever built.

And I will leave the best for last…

The 1928 Isotta Fraschini from our very own, Mr Pete Gleason, aka @BMW Pete when he goes undercover, who is the absolute essence of a true gentleman. The wide variety of passions this man has, added to his meticulous attention to detail is simply admirable. Here he is explaining some restauration step about the car to a captivated audience. It was a great pleasure and honor to meet and talk with the legend in person.

One must ask how anyone could possibly restore any vehicle to this level? Breathtaking. Thanks for sharing.

It was great meeting you and a few others, thank you for coming by. Great timing in your picture, that crowd I was speaking with was the BMW senior execs at the show :) they came by twice.

It was a tough class, but the prewar European always is and our old Italian Gal, got a 2nd in class, which was amazing. The winner had a fresh restoration and a whole team of restorers presenting their car - Jennifer and I had dirt under our finger nails from cleaning for a week on a 20 year old restoration.

So we had the honor to drive across the ramp, pretty cool for this kid from the streets of South London
