Does anyone have a picture of the rear parking brake assembly with the rotor off on a disc brake rear? I am missing parts, and need to verify exactly whats needed. The parts pics on WN are not clear enough and the workbooks aren't either.

Gary, did mine a while ago. Old assembly parts and then a pic of the e-brakes on the car. Hope it helps. The PITA for me was having the wrong size roll pins with the springs and the e brake support (the one with 2x 10mm nuts). The e-brake kit I purchased had the roll pins about 2 mm too small, after 2 hours of trying and several cuts to my hands, I finally realized their shorter size. I used the old ones and they fit fine.

some pics assembled, in half assembled state, and in fresh state prior to assembly.
hope it helps.

Hi Ajay and Forum,

Is it recommended to assemble the rear brake off the car before attaching it to the backing plate and attaching the e-brake? I am at this stage and I'm seeking advice; thank you!! I and I assume must forum members do not enjoy doing things 2 or 3 times, beatin' up the hands, and then find the correct approach. That is the beauty of this forum and 2002FAQ.

Regards,
Bill

Bill,

Some people assemble the whole rear axle--rear subframe, brakes, diif, etc and then just jack it up and and install the completed rear axle. I did it the other way---installed the rear subframe and trailing arms, and then did the parking brakes while the rear axle was installed. However, you do need to reassemble the rear trailing arms--brake guards, bearings, etc prior to installing the rear trailing arms. In my case, i replated all axle interior parts, and powder coated all parts and, of course, added new wheel bearings in the rears.

A side note, the rear parking brake pins (allen head with a T on the end) that came with my parking brake kit were about 2 mm too small, so i would check that the new ones match your original sizes. Luckily my original pins were salvagable...wire wheeled cleaned them and used them.

Looking through my stash of parts, I see I have a few sets of genuine BMW park bake pins, a couple of park brake expanders (the bit that the brake cable fit into.) Anyone doing a rebuild?
