guys, my 2800cs seems to be missing the tailpipe support bracket. the one that connects to #11. can somebody get me a good pic of how yours is mounted / connected. thanks in advance!

I just installed this last week and will take a picture. I assume you mean parts 12 and 13 from the other schematic of this same region? It’s the rubber support bracket, which annoyingly is a different one from the two that hold that last horizontal muffler in place

this is the pic of the 2800cs rear muffler. yes, parts 12 + 13 on this diagram ... what does 12 connect to?

There’s a bracket up under there that is hanging down that it bolts onto. I’ll get a picture. I need to install a new rubber bracket anyways - mine has one half of the “o” torn so the muffler is pulled sideways slightly. I have the new part so I’ll snap a picture as it’s going in and post here

One step ahead of me! Here are my photos. I also am including a picture of the two different mount types. The one on the left is for that muffler and the one on the right is for the tailpipe end (part 12). They are not easily interchangeable, annoyingly. I had the “wrong” one mounted as a temporary fix in picture 1.

You want to know the dimensions and position of the support as marked in the picture?
I made a new support of stainless steel and welded it to the bottom (spare wheel). Circumferential fillet weld. 309 rod TIG

The rubber damper just hangs on an l-shaped tab that is welded to the underside of the body. The location is crucial to get right, as it is one of the most important parts that will define how nicely centered your tailpipe will sit in the opening in the rear valance.
I just bolted everything up under the car, centered the tailipe with tye-wraps and tape and then drew the circumference on the underside of the spare wheel well where the bracket would sit. Then welded the bracket to the floor.

appreciate you guys ... thanks for the dimensions @Fritzie. this will be very helpful. i was planning to make a small angle piece to hang the tailpipe ... and my guess about the importance of location is verified by Erik.

so in regard to the rubber piece ... did you buy it from BMW or from W+N? i have heard that W+N's muffler rubber mounts are NOT good and don't last. i own the BMW piece.

I bought mine from ECS tuning. Obviously it’s new but the rubber does seem quite strong, much better than the old one that I took off.

I bought it from W&N. But still in progress with the restoration.

Mine came from WN albiet 5 years ago.

I don’t know, but that connection, being between the spare tire tub and the body, is one of the most difficult to get to.

I've had rubbers from W&N fail after just three years sitting in a garage.
Even Durex would do better.
I'm choosing bmw rubber any day over W&N, unless the consensus here is "ok " to go for walloth.

Unless you whack the exhaust on a gravel road in Colorado & crease the center resinator & braking that bushing, it will last for years, true story.

I can echo that: just swapped my 6 yr old sway bar bushings from W&N to PU bushings as the "old ones" started to show cracks.
