When the key is switched on, the indicator light on the dash does not come on. When I put 12 volts to the blue lead on the alternator plug, the light comes on. I know that much works and the voltage regulator and the alternator are new. The battery is not charging. As I understand it, my guess is the green lead going to the back of the indicator light is not powering up. Any clues where I might find the source of this trouble? Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Since you still have a regulator, are you sure the three wires from regulator to alternator aren't fried? It is very common for them to lose their insulation and cause a short, worth a look.

You need to disconnect the blue wire from the alternator and ground it to chassis.
If the bulb lights up your dash circuit is correct.

Thanks, guys. I hear about no power to the green wire to the dash bulb and associated horror stories. I'll follow up on your suggestions.
