Yeah what have we become when a 914 w/no engine and trans is noteable at $3800. I recall someone doing a v8 914 on this forum - could be fun :)

i would never buy again a mid engine car.... you see everything but can't reach it :D
That was my experience with a Pantera.... sold !

I think there were a few of us here that built 914 V8s.

I sold mine LY on BaT.

If anyone is contemplating the above barn find, keep in mind they are also Karmin made bodies and rust just like an E9 :(.

As @HB Chris said, the big rubber bumpers on the 75 and. 76 MY are super ugly. Fortunately backdating them to the earlier bumpers is a fairly easy process. The 75/76s also had a higher ride height than the earlier cars that is easily corrected by adjusting the front torsion bars and replacing the rear springs.

@Dick Steinkamp - yours was a beauty. Super well done.

@tygaboy -Chris's is an absolute monster with a 1000 unique, one off details done to the nth degree

Mine is an "OK" 25ft driver. I spent a little too much garage time with Chris and got drawn into the 914 world. It's a hoot to drive...

Regarding a 3L, 911 motors have become stupid expensive. You could build up that $3800 car with a boxster S 6 speed and a crate LS3 with 420hp for what a rebuilt 3L would cost without the install. It's ridiculous...

I hate to ask but is it worth considering a VW air cooled engine with a lot of cool mods?

@tferrer Tyson - I'd posted this as part of my "farewell" message on my E9 build but for those who may have missed it, here's the latest effort: Ferrari 360 drive train in a 914.
For anyone wanting to follow along, here's the build thread:

Seems perfectly reasonable. ;)
Can't wait to see that one wrap up.

My grandfather bought one of these new, and I'm really not sure why. He was a very large man then and couldn't fit in it. Rather than sell the car, he let it rot out in a field until it disappeared. The design of these always looked unfinished.
