I does look familiar. Besides no pictures of the aftermarket sunroof, the fact that every inch of the inner fenders/strut towers are covered in some aftermarket sound deadening material is a little concerning. You know it's covering up something.

My Recaros were covered in the exact material before I redid my interior fifteen years ago. Fifteen years! Doesn't seem possible that it's been that long.

The same thing that I have.

Hmmm?? I thought they were the same Recaros that I have (the blue material looks the same). Maybe your right, the adjustment and pivot cover look different.

I hope he adds pictures of the underside and the sunroof. The frame rail in the photo looks like fresh paint, but previously might have been "crusty" ? (technical term)
Good looking car though, from what you can see.

Just the right amount of the wrong stuff in the engine bay to make it a cheaper buy.
Looks like a fun and rewarding project!

Vince - We had it up on the lift with wheels off, etc. before I bought it. I was concerned about the sound deadening stuff hiding issues as well, but it really didn't seem to be a band-aid over some serious rot. One rear floor pan had been seen some rust repair, but the rest were good. The rest of underside was in good shape, rockers too (in case that doesn't count as "underside" - seems kind of like a corner to me).

It was a funny car though. The previous owner had obviously taken good care of it and spent money on it for a long time, but then I think it just kind of got away from him. Not in a "it started to rust sense," but in a "I'm tired of making appointments with the specialist shop in Seattle. Maybe the gas station around the corner will work okay" kind of way. Maybe there was a financial component to the change in its maintenance as well.

Don - As you pointed out lots of non-standard bits in the engine bay. None of these were particularly old. As part of the sale most of that stuff was remedied (red hoses, wrong fasteners, correct spark plug wires and loom, etc.) There's still quite a bit to do, but it drives well now as is.

bossrobot - Flo-fit seats? Well okay then. I just assumed they were the ubiquitous Recaro swap from an E21 or something.

In the attached photo you can see the audio system voltage regulator in the lower left. Note the gauge of those cables! The look about as big as the mains coming into my house. I've got a washer fluid reservoir (although it's black not clear) and working pump but haven't installed yet. The washer hose had been cut down at the bottom of the hood support so that needs to be remedied.

In the final photo many of you probably noticed the header. It's been coated. The coating doesn't seem to do much in terms of quieting it down though;)

Also ad originally listed as 5 speed then amended to 4.

Ahh, I know that place. I stopped by while visiting my son at college, they were not overly friendly. I asked about bone yards near by as I was restoring a Bavaria, they declined to help.

Sorry your experience wasn't the best. They were friendly to me. I suppose that''s a pretty standard feature when trying to sell a car though. The owner's a bit gruff, but I like him.

Did your son attend Reed?
