Potential new/stainless exhaust provider

Hey guys.

I thought this may interest everybody. Since my car currently has an "exhaust-shop special" system, I've been looking into exhaust alternatives. The W&N system is very nice and all, but it is heinously pricey, and they are over the pond. So, for us Yanks, it is a mite bothersome.

While on the hunt, I found this company, Waldron's Antique Exhaust. http://www.waldronexhaust.com/ I sent them an inquiry, and they currently have most of the parts for the 2800 CS in NOS form. Since I don't want to have to buy the exhaust again in 5 years, I asked them about the whole sheebang in stainless. They quoted me about 800$ for most of the system in stainless, including the jigs to make the system on their end. The gentleman I spoke with said they have the front and middle sections, but not the back section, and all for the 2800 CS. He seemed very willing to create a setup for us if we could a.) pay and b.) provide NOS exhaust sections.

I currently lack any of the original exhaust system, so I cannot send him a part to work from. Given his prices, and the fact that he's on our side of the pond, this may be an option worth pursuing. I would like everyone's opinion first, however.

I might have what you need, but need some clarification.

You said: "The gentleman I spoke with said they have the front and middle sections, but not the back section, and all for the 2800 CS."

'and all for the 2800cs' does that mean he has everything for the 2800cs or is need of the rear muffler and curved pipes (back section = from the resonator back?).

My rig needs something more 'custom', but if my ol' stock parts can help, maybe we can work something out ....

drop me a PM if interested.

Would the system include the header?

Also were you thinking of a 2 or 3 silencer system?

I am certainly interested to hear more ... despite being on the 'wrong' side of the Atlantic :D

The other day I saw a photo of a 1 silencer system - it only had the silencer at the rear axle ... that must sound very good :D
Rgds,

No header, since the stock car had iron manifolds and downpipes. Most of the headers mate up with the first silencer section, right after the downpipes, effectively replacing them. I've seen a few suppliers, with most of them being Stahl replicas. Usually in the 400-600$ (US) range, more if you get them coated and whatnot.

Based on the gentleman's replies, he has NOS of the 2800 CS system except for the last muffler, the one that goes behind the fuel tank, #3 in the order of things.

I think that the 2800CS system is made of smaller diameter tubing. The CoupeKing site sort of hints at this. Worth checking before you have a stainless system made if you have a 3.0 or bigger and the supplier is basing their product on the 2.8 system.

I am pretty sure the tail pipe of a 2800 is 55mm vs. 60mm on the 3.0. I don't know about the rest of the path.

2800 system uses only the long center resonator, a different rear muffler, and a slightly smaller tailpipe. I doubt overall flow is less than the 3.0 system as the 3.0 has a second resonator.

For my money, any replacement system that has equivalent flow to stock is not of interest. I would want lower restriction/more sound.

Had a good chat with Joe at Waldon Exhaust recently, unfortunately he said he had no parts available to model from and needs everything. I sent him a exhaust pic and spoke about creating an 'improved system' (more flow, larger diameters, etc) fitting in the stock location and he said no problem.

Most of the expense is in the initial setup (the jig fab'n), but once that is done, complete systems might be in the $500-700 (his very rough estimate) + the initial set-up cost. He needs a few more pics from me to visualized it more.

I need to do something, no huge rush but, my new hot 3.3L with header is loosing a lot of power thru the old stock system and my racing exhaust is much to loud for suburbia.

Curious on who would be seriously interested in this potentail project, the more folks involved, the set up $$ comes down.

I might be able to supply some of the donor parts for the patterns.
Chime in if this is of interest to you.

Coupes up!

CoupeKings exhaust

Hello fellow owners!
Has anyone bought that 'cool looking exhaust' from coupeking? Ive been considering it for my CSL but would like some feedback before making a commitment.

I had kinda hoped we could make this a sort of "group buy" deal, but the clincher is that I lack any of the original exhaust components. Mine were so badly decayed I was able to remove the exhaust by crushing it with my bare hands.

Considering all the other exhaust options are so expensive (1.2k+? That's SuperSprint money!) a more reasonably priced kit would probably be welcome. I cannot attest to the quality of the gentleman's work, though, as I have never seen it. Hopefully his fitment would at least be on par with OEM, although I doubt it will be as good as Coupeking or W&N.

Hm, if we wanted to be really different, I wonder if he can make it out of Titanium?

Hello all,

Atlas, I hope I haven't ruffled any feathers making my inqueries, but have had the 'group' in mind all along. Just wanted to educate myself and chat with the potential 'source'.

I have a buddy that 'lurks' this board that is about to strip his coupe for 'development'. His 2800cs has a complete stock system that could be available for this project. He his also very interested in an improved system.

Let's determine who is seriously interested, see if we it can put a group together and take it from there. Would like to determine if this is a viable option sooner than later...spring is coming

Let's try and figure this out.

exhausting search...

The full unit in stainless for a 2002 from Ireland is $380, so $500-700 sounds about right for a "custom" system. I agree that my preference would be just a little more easy-breathing (read also as "louder"), but not much. Dave V. in NC

Oh no, quite the opposite, I want to drum up some support for this, as it looks like it will be another good option for coupesters on this side of the pond. I am glad you called too. I mentioned to him that I was going to talk to some of the other coupe people about it, so he may have been expecting it.

Ha ha, Sooooo...

Been sidetracked getting ready for paint next week, found & sent another pic (rear muffler) today to Waldron for their contemplation.

Is there anyone here close to Nottawa, MI 49075 that might be able to do make a visit? www.waldronexhaust.com

As of now, I think we are looking at a possible batch of 5-10 'improved' systems.

Have chatted up CoupeKing about an exhaust for some months ago for my 3.5 Motronic, but understood a quieter system was still in development and without the ss rear. Further a suitable exhaust tip was still being sourced.

If things have moved along, count me in on a group buy as well. If the vendor is CoupeKing, I'm sure we'll be able to count on a quality product.

I'll go ahead and sign up for one. I was holding out for a complete system with headers but who am I fooling? A good stainless exhaust is good enough for my coupe! 8)
