Potential new/stainless exhaust provider

I an definitely interested in this project. I have a crapped out system in my 72, and I suspect it is about 80% non standard, so I have nothing to offer in the way of sample parts.

However, I would be quite interested in the end result, so if you are counting noses for a group buy, count me in.

x_atlas0 - Have you made any progress with the logistics of this little venture?

- Have we found a sample exhaust for reference? I can contribute a spare tail pipe. We might start by locating a complete standard exhaust and split the cost (plus set up) N ways among committed. When no longer needed the reference system could be sold through the board or the 'Bay. I'd be willing to ante up if would move this project to the next level.

- What does the vendor need from the group other than a reference exhaust and a setup fee? A rough count or minimum count? Prepaid orders? Hopefully something in between!

I've been watching this thread grow..and just last night I said to myself ..It won't be long now..before John steps in and gets the ball rolling on this project !! :)

Howdy everyone,

I've been consumed getting ready to paint my coupe this weekend so this exhaust project has been sidelined for me. Here's is where Waldron and I left off after having a conversation and a couple pics:

We usually offer 3 price levels:
1. All aluminized
2. Aluminized steel muffler(s) with Stainless pipes
3. All stainless steel

Adding stainless steel mufflers is usually $75 per muffler.

My first estimate for your system is approximately $600 for
aluminized, $750 for SS pipes with aluminized mufflers and $980 for
all stainless. To these numbers, we will need to add shipping and the
weld fixture recovery. Shipping will probably be about $65. The weld
fixture cost per system will depend on the number of systems
ordered. The total fixture cost should be less than $1000."

Here's some more info from our Emails: Transverse Muffler thoughts

"I am anticipating a need for 2 weld fixtures for the front pipes. Building the weld fixtures will take 4 to 8 weeks. Once the weld fixtures are completed, our single-order lead time is usually 2 to 3 weeks. For 5 to 10 systems, count on total lead time of approximately 9 weeks after receipt of order.

The rear, transverse muffler is going to be a challenge. I can not (currently) manufacture a muffler case with a side inlet. I could make an inlet pipe that makes that 90 degree turn and enters the end of a shorter muffler, but we can’t make an exact duplicate of the rear unit. If you provide me with the measurements of the muffler, I will research available mufflers to see if we can adapt an existing high-flow, side-entry muffler. I’ll need the case dimensions (length, width and height as well as the size and position of the inlet pipe). Pictures of the inlet and outlet areas would also be very helpful.

Also, will it be OK to make the front resonator cases slightly different shapes? I can make cases that are 3.5”, 4”, 5” and 6” round, or ovals that are 4X8, 4 ¾” X 9 ¾”, 7X9 and (coming mid-year), 5” X 9 ¼”. Both front mufflers/resonators appear to be different than any of my current case styles, so mine might not look identical to the original units. If you could provide actual case dimensions, I will determine if our parts are exactly the same or if they will be slightly different in shape/appearance.

I will be traveling with minimal internet/email access from Feb 10 through Feb. 25. If you can get any information to me before Sunday, I can get the research moving before I leave."

I'm currently reconsidering the 'economics' of this option compared to more local options once all the 'factors' have been taken into consideration. It appears that the end cost ends up darn close to Coupe Kings option and his product is a 'known entity'......

I am also concerned about the interface between the headers and the rest of the exhaust: Would this be standardized some how or would the new system have some sort of universal 'end or length' that each end user would have to customize to their set-up? Basically, not sure if everyone is running the same header as I or ???

So...the discussion is open to the floor
