All:

I tried this question on the 2002 forum and ended up with really odd answers.

I am looking for a qualified BMW type in the LA area to inspect a 2002 Turbo. These cars share all the issues of E9's and then some.

I will need this mechanic type to actually go to the car, inspect it for the usual issues, and report back to me. Happy to pay travel, time, etc for the right person.

The car cannot come to their shop as it is in storage and has no plates.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

So- no tow trucks in LA?
You are taking your chances if you don't get this on a lift.

If a positive inspection would result in you buying it, I'd pony up for a flatbed move and have it gone over properly.

Just like an E9...

All:

Great responses, thanks. I have been looking to find one of these 2002s for a long time now, and have seen so many disasters that I am doing this in two stages, first the 'once over' by an knowledgeable person, then if the car is anywhere close to what the seller has said it is, off it goes to a competent shop for a deep look. Have yet to get to the Competent Shop as these cars were really neglected during the 80's by all but a few owners. Now that they are worth something the evil ones are coming out of the woodwork.

I have a brother-in-law who can do the first look (he owned one) but the deep look (with compression check, gearbox issues, rust, and such) off it goes on a flatbed to a real shop.

The Brother-in-law costs me a dinner some day, the Shop/Flatbed cost me a grand.

Thanks for the name, I will call him if it makes the first cut.
