Proposal for a Coupe only gathering just prior to the Vintage event in Winston Salem in 2015.
My name is Wayne Lester and my wife is the owner on a 72' 30cs and is know as Coupelady on the board.

While talking to many of the E9 owners at the Vintage this year it became clear that all would like to have a E9 only event on the East coast.

I have been organizing and attending Tour drives and events in the western North Carolina mountains for about twenty five years. Each year I host two different multi day drives one for BMW Z3's and Z4's and one for vintage multi marque European cars. We organized and helped run an event with BMW Manufacturing for the Z3's and 4's called Homecoming which had an attendance of 500 cars annually for many years so I do have some experience in doing this stuff.

I would like to see if there is any interest in having an all Coupe event a couple of days before the Vintage. We would gather at a location on the Blue Ridge Parkway which would be within striking distance from the Atlanta area and within reason for people from the north. We would do one or two days of drives on some of the most beautiful and fun roads anywhere. At the end of this we would in mass travel to Winston Salem on either Thursday or Friday and attend the Vintage event.

Any Interest???

Proposal for a Coupe only gathering

I'd say there would be interest in a rally type event.

The dates and location could be worth exploring....

Yes. I would like to attend the Vintage but it is too damned far for just the weekend so I was considering taking some more time off around those dates to make it worthwile to make the long trip. This would do it. Great idea.

Proposal

I would provide tour books with all directions. We would run two to three hours to a place for lunch then a couple of hours back to the home base.
number of days would be up to you guys but the place would be my decision in that I would need to do the routes that I know would work for the Coupes. Probably the Switzerland Inn in Little Switzerland NC. It's less that two hours from Winston Salem.

Wayne and Amy: great idea, and you're right, you probably have more experience at this than anyone I know. Julie and I would try to attend, most likely driving in on Thursday. Remember that Amelia is just 2 weeks prior to Vintage next year.

Love the idea!

Aside from taking another day off from work and leaving very early in the a.m, it's a great idea. The other proposal would be that we do a Coupe only drive on the Friday the day before the event, just us boys and girls, instead of joining the general BMW drive. Is that elitist? We'd still have the parking lot activity to chat with the non-coupe types Friday and Saturday evening.

Another Coupe-only drive would be to meet along I-81 from Pennsylvania south.
81 is a nice road, leading to 202 which is a lot of fun (if the VA speed traps are not out)

I like Wayne's idea of a coupe only rally. I am sure there is somewhere close we could go through the twisties. If the the Vintage organizers plan a different rally route each year, we can use the 2014 Vintage route which I kept...

Hi Wayne -- If I get a coupe by then, I'm in. (Hell, I may show up just to gawk at your wife's car again.)

Hey Wayne & Amy,

Sue and I would be interested in this as we generally cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway to-and/or from The Vintage. We are also familiar with a lot of the "fun" roads in this area.
