Sure. Thinner is always working fast.

Paint thinner can wash out the plastifiers being a part of isolation materials. Some part of it can be trapped for a long time inside the wire where it cannot evaporate as from the surface and can start degradation process.

Most of plastic parts manufacturers are suggesting to use mild soap or isoprophanol. Beware that the fumes from the alcohol are lethal for brain cells and can make people to become blind! Use well ventilated room or do it outside. Just "in case".

Similar story like with Nitro and the stain on paint... Can wash the stain but make the paint bubble and peel off later.

It is good to use a grease/oil spray for electrical contacts in the end to protect them from oxidizing as they are not brand new and protection layer on the terminals is partially worn out.

Just recieved the parts from rdae.nl.
Herewith the comparison to the original parts from my car:

Conclusion:

the small PVC isolation shoes # PH- 1090-B are almost identical to the 70's BMW part. They are a bit longer, but can be trimmed if you desire.

The #2452 is dimensionally quite ok, however as they have inside them 2 male spade connectors, you would need to modify the harness for it. The original BMW part has no internal connector, but a long male connector I side the terminal; this would need to be replaced by a female connector to use the RDAE connector.

The ones from Goodspeed were exactly like the originals in size and configuration, you need a longer male spade lock type terminal and a lock type female spade
The only issue is that they are out of stock, not sure when they are getting more I have seen these ones that you have found, offered up by a few different electrical company but passed on them as they were just not right but may have to go with these.

Thanks, Rick

linking two threads: I'll be buying connectors from HSU in Germany for the wiring harness / cable harness / wiring loom.
If you are also interested in fresh connectors please follow this thread to acquire some:
