Question for everyone... DIY's?

I'm wondering if it would be nice to have a DIY Forum? It would be a collection of specific DIY threads added by anyone/everyone covering anything from "How to jack up your coupe" to "How to remove the ignition switch" to "How to remove the transmission". Most of the topics are covered somewhere in the forum content but you have to search for it. I've seen other forums use DIY's and it's pretty popular.

Opinions?

Great idea I think... Searching is so sensitive to words and stuff. The trick would be how to manage old threads that contain great info so that one doesn't stop looking in the new place.

If you can also separate the various sections, like interior, suspension, engine, chassis, etc that would be wonderful. Easy for me to say, I'm still an analog dino, not yet a fossil. We appreciate all that you all do.

I think it’s a great idea. Is it possible to instance threads? This way, in case in case you want to include an already existing thread, you could create new thread with title in that DIY forum format and then instance the existing thread, wherever it happens to be. This way you don’t have to move anything.
 
Overall whatever works for folks. In a perfect world the rest of the internet figured out that tagging is a more sustainable way to group content versus structured curation. I quite like structured curation however, and it is one of the things that separates a high engagement forum from a sad FB or instagram page.

Sad is a perfect word here...agreed.
What about a Chilton style approach, only with links to threads and of course the ability to provide feedback.
 
A comprehensive hive mind "How to". Brilliant idea!

Goes hand in hand with Parts Suppliers & Resources.

Like the Chilton/Haynes/Blue Book approach.

Simple table of contents with the "How to" article(s)

Most likely an existing thread is buried in the General forum and can only be found with a search. If there are good existing DIY's in other forums a new thread can be created in the DIY forum with a link to the original thread (URL). When I see these I can move the original thread into the DIY forum, that way it can be found in the DIY forum or by searching. Every DIY thread should have relevant tags also. Moving a thread is easy to do.
 
Over on Bimmerfest, Bluebee has compiled an index with links to the e39 DYI posts she finds most useful. She not only links to posts on Bimmerfest, she also links to other forums. Scroll down from here: https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/the-very-best-of-e39-links.165198/post-4278401

I would think an index would make this information more useable, whether the posts are compiled in a single forum or scattered throughout the site.

It will probably turn into an index, but I question how useful an index is when there's limited content. An index or parent/child tree can be created and modified at any time.

So basically a wiki? The unique thing is it would allow users to collate and collaborate on specific topics as you mentioned while maintaining curation capabilities.

Yes, like the thread I posted on refurbishing anodized aluminum. There are other ways to do it so someone could add to my thread or start a new one.
