Is this manual antenna period correct for E9 ?

but my place is unavailable if you have that odd thing near the fuel door boot, because the antenna will not fit

Yes, in the federalization of my euro coupe they mounted that "odd thing." I love the placement of your CS Register decal. Mine is on the driver's rear window.
Rare birds indeed. Mine came from Art Wegweiser personally when I was doing the first run of CS Register badges. He sent me an original to use as a model.
Miss the old curmudgeon to this day.

my csregister decal came from a very generous. and kind man
i do not know who designed thsi decal, but it captures the essential of the coupe, the c pillar

Be careful with new Hirschmann antennas if you have an original mounting hole in the fender, it may not fill it entirely like the older ones did.
 
Here is a picture of my neighbor's coupe. Pretty sure the install was not factory, but thats the way he bought it.

I think that antenna location looks cool but it's the last place I'd drill a hole on an e9
