73 bumper

...showing my ignorance...besides the license tag lights, what is different than, say, one from a domestic 70, 71, 72?

For the 1973 model year only and before the baby buggy 74 bumpers, The US DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations dictated that the bumpers be extended approximately an inch for both the front and rear bumpers. Totally unnecessary in my view as if the extra inch of clearance offered any added protection in the event of a potential accident. Due to the extended mounting of the bumpers, the mounting holes for both the front fenders and rear fenders were also different than the earlier coupes. All the different parts for both bumper systems are clearly illustrated in the Mobile Tradition parts catalog.
