I have lost the rear tail lights and the instrument illumination lights.

I have both high and low beams, brake lights, signals both directions front and rear, all gauges and idiot lights, horns etcetcetc and all fuses are good (including #1 that shows as the fuse for tail lights). Emerg flasher and everything engine/ignition/alternator checked and ok.

I have replaced the main headlight switch on the assumption that losing the dimmer function on the instruments plus the tail lights meant a short in the switch. No luck but at least I have a spare so when it does go I'm prepared.

Wiring or connector at the switch? One of the female connectors at the headlight switch looked like it had arc'd but then I replaced the switch and no change.

I'm a daytimer until I get this fixed.

I'd suspect the friggin idiot that built that car in the first place. He never was any damn good at figuring out electrics. Hell, it took him 6 months to figure out his voltage regulator was bad, and he couldn't even do that without help. = )

In all seriousness, the instrument lights usually are linked to the tail lights, that way you know you've got a problem. Doesn't seem like it could be anything too serious. Is it possible you've lost ground?

Dim witted

As my father loved to say, "it worked last time I had it" so after two years I'd say you're safe. I'm probably being punished for considering relocating the fuse block to a more accessable location.

I think that what ever knocked out the lights in the first place has damaged a connection.

Check continuity at the switch blade by blade, check the grounds, check the bulb and when all else fails wire in a new circut so I can drive at night again.

Cannot be ground if the brake lights work.
Could be the wiring between the light switch and fuse #1 and #2. Just check for 12V on both sides of those fuses with the light switch on.

Done. Fixed. The power to Spade 30 on the headlight main switch was a separate female connector from the wiring harness block connector and it had come off and hidden (still hot!!!) behind the dash.

Looking for the rear tail lights L and R with orange turn signals

Francisco,
You can find them quite often on German EBay.de and on German Kleinanzeigen. de
Many different qualities and prices.
