Yes, did my home work but the internal workings of my mirror are in need of repair, they rattle around and the track ball is not stable. Heat gun gently applied did nothing. Have we made any progress? Glass is pristine so not an issue there.

Are you saying the glass on a flag mirror can not be replaced?Trap mirror is removable by pressing on the glass. The flag mirror is not rebuildable.
Not that I am aware of. BMW never sold the glass or plastic trim like a trap and it is fixed into the housing. Are you saying the glass on a flag mirror can not be replaced?

Ok!hi,
yes you can, i did it
is sad saying no for years, if something goes in, it can go out
the best way is to have the previous glass broken, as the glass is fixed very tight
glass is supported/retained by the black plastic surrounding
you only see a lip of that black plastic, but is bigger inside
10 years ago there were replacements of that black plastic, i used those
as to glasses, i reworked a glass of other model that was slightly higher, got a template from the original glass (put the pieces together to d this) and had it sanded out by the glass shop
if you have a dummy you can give it a try
