Rear wheel bearing question

All done........ Yea!!!!

So got everything back together with the bearing spacers in place.
Getting vibration but had noticed that universal joint at diff end was pretty loose. You could move it a good 3/8 back and forth.

So out comes the driveshaft. Order new center bearing.
Luckily for me a rebuild place that advertises in the Roundel is not 3 miles from my house.
Called them Wed (new years eve) and they said they would be open Friday so I had the driveshaft there at 8 AM yesterday and got it back the end of the day. $345. Yikes I thought for 2 universal joints and a balance. There's a niche market?
So took for a drive a little while ago even though it is wet here.
Just had to see if vibration was gone and it was and my fenders haven't fallen off yet?
Up to 75 on local roads. Oops!

So one more project down and out.

U joint question

Just wondering if replacing the U-joints is something that can be done "at home" or do you need a heavy duty press? It looks like they're pressed in and I did not see a "C" clip- am I missing something?

Thanks

They are staked, needs a professional.

Yes, they have a tool for opening up the end of the yoke and removing and replacing bearing.

The guy told me my driveshaft had been done before and from the looks of it at his shop.
Since it was done they had to attach little cups over each bearing and then tack weld them in.

It's not like the old days when we could replace a driveshaft bearing in 20 minutes.

Thanks Chris & m5, now I know the proper term! Also quick question, do I need to bring the U-joints with me to a shop or are these sizes typically available? I need both U-joints replaced and this is one operation I have not done before, I got the shortened balanced assembly for my earlier car from Carl & Ben over by you (ish).

Peter, most drive shaft shops should have the bearings for you shaft.
Be sure they balance it as well.
As if they have center bearings?
Also check the Guibo at the trans very carefully while you have it out.
Good to get it all at once.
Good luck.
