okay guys, i am really curious where this little gasket goes. its a 'J' shaped piece that is 7/16" x 31.5"

the part number is
51376740175

i presume that this is the length of the upper curve of the rear window. just want to know where exactly it goes. the parts book is so vague on this. i know it doesn't go inside the channel as that is part 51326654262.
I was over at Gary's today and we were trying to sort out how all of the trims go together and where he might be missing gaskets.

the second question is where trim 54129734126 - its #5 on the below drawing.

this is the cross section of that part number

this part is also use on the stainless arch trims on the CSL and on the sunroof of many models

Sounds like the ‘keder’ that’s on the wheel arches and under the window chrome as in the pics

The profile and dimension are wrong with this rubber strip. Original strip is a simple u-channel rubber that is approximately 3/16” wide. It also goes around the inside perimeter of sunroof opening that is hidden behind the headliner.

As for the j-shaped gasket, it is press fitted (wide side facing down) in between the rear window interior anodized aluminum decorative strip that is attached to the headlining and the exterior top anodized aluminum piece (where the u-shaped felt window guide clips onto). This part is shown in Keshev’s first photo above. There is about a 1/8” gap between these int./ext. aluminum trim pieces , hence the need for this filler piece.

Original gasket taken off coupe.

No - its not that piece. Its internal across the top of the rear window frame and I have them too. The existing ones were just folded over and inserted, but that doesn't look right.

many thanks Keshav ... i will order some of the xx 126 piece. i figured there had to be something there.

so who has a pic of where the xx 175 piece goes? (the J shaped piece)

If you were to roll down the rear window and look straight up, this gasket is sandwiched between the outer top aluminum trim channel (holding u-shape felt piece) and the inner aluminum roof trim strip (clips over headliner tucked into roof lip). The gasket is used to fill the gap between these two alloy trim pieces, both of which share the same roof and c-pillar profile. Again, it’s just press fitted into place. I’ll try to get a pic of whole assembly.

That makes sense Bert ... so the only question is whether the 'J' leg on the inside of the car goes up or down. i haven't noticed this piece of rubber before. i guess it flattens the j mold into the headliner.

OK, here are some pics on how all the pieces fit together. Whole assembly is from passenger side rear window.

Are you sure? This trim piece joined together (via coupler) with the front roof trim run from the bottom of C-pillar to the bottom of the A-pillar. Without these, the headliner adhesive will surely come loose and will likely be flopping in the wind.

Here is a couple of pics (pilfered off the www) of the entire interior roof/headliner moldings.

The middle piece in the first photo is the inner trim molding that clips into the headliner roof lip. In the pic below shows the coupler piece that joins the front trim molding that runs the the A-pillar base.

Super helpful info, Bert. Thank you.

I accidentally ordered that piece from W&N and had no idea where it was supposed to go...
