Recaros - Seat Height?

Hi there...

Anyone feel like they're sitting a bit too high in their Recaro's? Looking for ideas to develop a new/better adapter. The aardvark approach works but I prefer a lower sitting position.

Thoughts and ideas welcome!

I know the PO of my car lowered the Recaros; not sure how though! Will take a look.
 
Hi Tom, indeed there are few seats that fit correctly into the e9 and offer the same steering wheel-to-thigh space as the stock lounge chairs. The Recaros from a Porsche or some older BMW's and I think even from the Recaro website are the best fit and they're all pretty much the same. I got a big space boost recently by putting in a smaller diameter steering wheel :-) Just a thought. The e9 seat riser is semi-unique to our models so you may want to measure as best you can the space between the stock seats and the new ones. Also, I saw someone modify the stock seats when they were recovered to add extra support.
 
This has come up before and the consensus is that they're too high. I put in a pair of Sport Recaros from a 320is and I love the seats but hate the height. I made the brackets and they go straight across between the rail mounts, but if I remember correctly they may go a little lower with some changes to the brackets. The seats are almost as wide as the rail mounts, or the sheet metal pedestals that the rails mount to, so they may not go much lower.
 
Too high?

I put in a pair of the e21 Recaro's (recovered by Aardvark) and they are 1-2" lower than the stock seats. Are there different seat bottoms?

With the flat adaptor plates is does not look like they could go any lower. The hinge piece and cover make the seat wider than the CS rails and would interfere if you used a stepped attachment plate to lower the base.
 
Thanks and yes... Fully agree. Love the 320is Recaros but having trouble adapting to the higher seat height.

Once our blue carpet arrives I'm going to pull out the seats and think about a new approach to get them to sit lower.

More to follow on this one (I hope!)...
