I think chrome looks really out of place in our engine bays. The gasket can be replaced. Suggest if you buy a chrome cap that you swap the gasket. or get one from Hal.

Years ago - I had a leaking oil cap in my 2002 (M10 motor). Back then, all I could get was the new looking plastic cap from the more modern motors.
I discovered that since the new cap fit my old motor, the gasket would also then fit. So I bought the new cap, put that gasket on the old (original to the 70's) cap and solved the leak.

That might work here also. At least it did for me back ... uh.... 35 years ago. LOL

I actually made a gasket from the left over rubber I made my windshield wiper motor gasket from

could not be ideal
unless your material was NBR or VITON rubber
typical rubber is EPDM, and that will not stand oil and petrol

double check

I've seen that as well.

not ideal, but understandable
i have checked that usual new gasket is 3mm thick, with time and wear it reduces thickness and fuel vapours can leak, even actual fuel

I have a few of the original oem oil filler caps. I'll pm you with details.

this is best solution as sometimes leak occurs in the cap itself, the construction of the cap is an odd one as the internal tabs´holes could allow passing vapours passing the rubber through the metal to metal welding
