Reconditioning the underdash panels

Given all the issues with flocking materials (difficulty of application, turns into a crunchy mess, etc.) what if I made a template using felt or other similar material to line the backing instead? Removing it later if I did want to go down the flocking route would be dead simple. I know they used it elsewhere in the car (inside the ducting, for example) so it's not like it is some strange new material. Plus, many drawers in furniture are either flocked or lined with cloth, so sounds like it is somewhat traditional.

I tried both 3M Contact Cement and JB Weld and had much better success with the JB Weld.

I also had great success using C-clamps with wooden blocks and letting the epoxy set for a couple of days.
