And I know in one case BaT kicked in $1,500 to get a coupe to the $80k reserve so they still made $2,500. And yet they match highest bidder to seller when reserve is not met and they charge no fee.

...with a short nap roller ;)

I'm no E9 expert, but I think that is all the money for that car....maybe even more. That one that was posted here that was on eBay late November/early December was in Seattle. He wanted $15k for it. I went and took a look at it. Clearly a project and clearly with some rust issues. Original paint and interior. I'd much rather have a car that wasn't messed with by someone else than one that was poorly put back together like the red car. Here's that $15k car...

I think you'd have to start over on the red car for any peace of mind. On one like the above car, you could just do it right the first time.

I wish I had such an opportunity.

I do agree it is much better to go with unrestored, original car with plenty of rusty areas than surprise egg like car.

Looking on the way body repair has been done such a car shouldn't be allowed to be on the road due to the risk for the crew and others around it.

Probably to make the repair in a correct way would require E9 specialist who knows where are the missing parts and to weld all back together on the repairing stand to go back with the body dimensions to the factory limits.

Only just looking on the height of the front suspension column's mounts shows the car is approaching the Maker! What a loss!

I heard BAT sold.... and now it’s easy for anyone to list on there as before they were a lot more selective with what they chose to offer

BaT sold in June of last year to Hearst Autos (Autoweek, Car and Driver, Road and Track).

In the "old days", they would list most anything to get started. The same thing you see now from Hemmings and other BaT imitators that are popping up. They have been fairly selective for the last 3-4 years because they can be. One key has always been the reserve you want/need. If it is higher than market, they probably won't take the car.

BaT recently added Saturday and Sunday as listing/selling days effectively adding 40% more cars per week. I submitted a car about 5 weeks ago. It has been selected to run, but maybe not for another week or two. Their business is pretty good. :)
