Hi all,

I am in the process of refinishing (polishing) my windshield (windscreen) trim & thought others might be interested.

This is what my 48 yo trim looked like.

I tried oven cleaner to remove the anodize, with little or no luck. I ended up using 220 wet sandpaper & lots of elbow grease. Work on a small area, cleaning frequently (I kept a bucket of soapy water nearby to rinse the sandpaper & a rag to wipe the piece). I wrapped the sandpaper around a foam block for most of it, but found a bit of the 220 with a popsicle stick worked better on some areas.

Starting to get through the anodize layer (this is the hard part).

All of the anodize layer is removed.

I then went to 400 & 1500

I had some abrasives that went as high as 12000, so I used them, but really think that is not necessary.

I then used Eagle One's "Never Dull" wadding polish and Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish to finish it off.

The last step will be to have them re-anodized.
