Refurbishing Door Interior "Chrome" Strips

If going for the real original look, you'll have to sand, shine and have them anodized. I've anodised quite a lot. Interior pieces nearly always come out nicely. Outer pieces not always...

Reanodising is possible, however you need to check for dull/whitish spots. If the original anodising has been damaged, corrosion may have started. Aluminium sometimes forms pit corrosion going deep into the base material. If you dont sand out all the corroded metal(pits!, so it can be deep) these pits will show up as dull spots in your fresh anodised, otherwise spotless piece. And then the blemish stands out more then compared to before you started.

After getting them where you want it, I actually wipe a coat of water-based polyurethane......Minwax floor restorer or similar product. Holds up to the weather well.
