Given that recently there have been several offers from members dedicating themselves to skillfully remanufacturing NLA parts, I'm hoping I might be able to tempt someone with the skills to re-create a set of the interior chrome horizonal strips, that attach to the door cards. I've hunted high and low and not been able to source a set for love, no money. I'm guessing there would enough interest out there to make a batch production worthwhile ?

It would be interesing the hear from other members, to get a 'most wanted' list of those NLA parts together, and any thoughts about remanufacture.

Great idea. My cousin in law in Virginia has a brand new machine shop and has been looking for work.
Any metal or plastic parts he can recreate?
The window tool was a great idea.

I can think of a few to add to the wish list:

1. The rubber boot at the gas filler opening.
2. Metal versions of the plastic chromed trim alongside the front seats (mounted on the carpet).
3. Rubber gasket for the rear tail light interior housing (against the interior).
4. Reproduced vinyl pattern at the top of the door cards (currently only available in black).
5. Reproduced plastic base for the high beam stalk arm (the one that always cracks).
6. Cast aluminum hood and fender grilles.
7. Better carpet reproductions.
8. Newer oval shaped fuel gauge sender unit that reaches the bottom of the tank (for EFI conversions).

+1
Somebody here had these made in metal a year or so back and was selling them on eBay. I took too long to buy one and they were gone.

Those chrome strips are 2 bucks apiece available in vineyards across the country.
Look in the Mercedes.
Check for srennocs post in the archives

3. Rubber tail lug gasket

If you are talking about the grey rectangular strip between the tail light assembly and the body of the car, I bought it from W&N. I don't know if it is still available.

One thing with the wish list is to qualify the need.
I posted a poll to learn if there was a need for the chromed plastic blanks that pop into the rear bumper to replace the redundant license plate light and so far, no one has responded yes or no. So I infer that although the part is unobtanium, nobody really wants or needs the piece.

Next, if you have qualified the part as desired, if you provide me with a sample on loan, I can reverse engineer it. Once that is done I can price it.

Stan,

Not this one. I have new ones of these as well. It it the small square "U" shaped gasket that mounts to the perimeter of the grey plastic lamp housing. It presses against the interior of the body.

Thanks SFdon & Craterface - I'm on the MB parts now. Any similar ideas for the strips in the rear ? I'd also like to source the long attaching clips

Sven - + 1 for metal trim for the sides of seats. Any idea who did these previously ?

2 metal replacement for the plastic seat piece

Get me a sample and I will get a quote to reverse engineer a reproduction.
Assuming that at least 10 people want a set

Joke

I would like to see doors whose curvature, esp at the rear, match that of the rear fenders....
On my cars, about 20% of the doors fit well against the front and rear fenders. The usual problem is that the door is aligned to fit well at the top, above the trim line, and a bit below, but the bottom 10" stick out noticably.

Has anyone tried, prior to a body respray, to bang that section of the door with a heavy wooden mallet? Apparently the factory did this, but not on my particular cars....

On a more serious note, I would like to see new vertical panels on each side of the radio and vent panels. The problem, besides too many holes from various radio installations, is the top corners, where they meet the matt alu trim along the parcel tray. Redoing them in leather does not look as nice as unmolested original ones, of which I have several in my cars.

Who makes the best leather gaiters around the gear lever? Most new ones that I have seen use a zipper which is at least twice the size of the original and therefore look clumsy.

Stan - if you could ship to the UK easily enough I'm in for a pair of the seat trims, as well as one of your steering column prisms if you still have any

I have only seen these in chromed plastic.
I thought you were referring to the larger chromed plastic piece that is on the bottom of the front seats

#1 New rubberized horse hair lower cushions for the front seats.
#2 Door gaskets that fit correctly & allow the doors to close nicely. Sadly BMW probably doesn’t even know there’s a problem.
#3 The part that never was …. full fender liners (made of plastic) for the front wheels. IMO about 4 decades overdue  but better late than never.

The seat trim pieces would reproduce nicely in 22 or 20 gauge polished stainless and wouldn’t be that big of a deal. I was going to do a pair
for my coupe but never have been able to get comfortable (see #1) so I’m going Recaro. ~ John Buchtenkirch

original style carpets

After trying one Belgian company and returning carpets I was satisfied with the current grey floor that I ordered from http://www.cabrio.de/ material is exactly like original, lined in original style and fits ok. Boot carpet doesn't fit perfect, but it's acceptable

Here is the part I was referring too:

I got mine from Dan, coupeguy.com. Really nice leather, smooth black zipper.

Again, that part wouldn’t be too bad to do in thin polished stainless, just need some delrin plastic dies in a Pullmax reciprocating machine to roll the edges down to duplicate the look of the radiused edge plastic part. I didn’t have them in my coupe but I have one from a Bavaria parts car, are they the same ? ~ John Buchtenkirch
