Reverse Lights not working 73 Bavaria automatic

I know the manual shift trans have a switch on the side of the trans to turn on reverse lights where is the switch on the automatic cars? What causes then to turn on when you shift to reverse. Mine are not working on my automatic Bavaria (I have a 5 speed Bavaria also) Thanks

Have you checked the fuses?

Have you checked the bulbs & tabs at the backs of the bulbs?

Yes tabs clean and shiny and new bulbs

My 2002 Auto has a switch on driver side just like a stick.

I think it gets its power from the shift indicator ( the electric indicator) on the transmission itself
