I just got through browsing (online) all the RM Sotheby's cars being offered up today and tomorrow looks like. Some really nice cars but the expected prices seem extremely optimistic. I realize this is fairly common, but I don't think a lot of these will get near their reserve.

This one caught my eye...Serial number 599+1.

My friends and I were able to inspect the lots before the auction started. Really amazing cars there, including a gaggle of Alfas that were tragically relegated to the back lot outside.

Many, if not most of the cars were at "No Reserve"..... so no safety net for the seller.

To help out the seller a bit on a "No Reserve" sale, auction houses often publish optimistic "estimates" to perhaps raise the price expectation for bidders.

Just by glancing over all the final sale prices, I was a little surprised at how well it seemed to go. Looked like nice results. This Porsche stood out, never heard of this particular one before, looks like 1 of 11.

And that Ferrari went for $26M.

Just to update my thread, finally had a chance to click on results...

so out of curiosity, any idea of how many went RNM? very good number of sold cars with some high prices ... we know this is a collection of the best of the best that should bring high prices and probably doesn't represent the market averages.

I didn't see them list the RNM in the results, but from glancing at the "for sale" cars before the auction and the results, it looks like most of them sold. I could be wrong, I didn't see the RNM results either.

its a reasonable assumption, but i think you need a rare CSL to draw real money and a condition 1, maybe a 2. i do agree that RM draws the money. only a small handful of cars sold below 100k - one was a pagoda SL, the others were Alfa race cars and junior cars.

The ultralight sold at Gooding for $265K, five years ago it might have been worth $325K?
Agreed Chris, I was in the market to buy it back if it went for silly money, with the premium it was $296k which I think was about right for that car in todays market.

Crazy to think I paid 74,750 Euros (including premium ) for that very car in the Bonhams "Power by BMW" sale in 2011.

It's good to be Pete...
