Robert Downey Jr's e9...

They had me right up to the faux weathered wood trim with carbon fiber. That looks like it belongs on a Disney ride. Other than that, a cool restomod if you’re into that.

If the goal is to drop jaws and be a conversation starter, then the faux wood belt line trim seems entirely appropriate.

Not my cuppa tea, but then I’m not RDJ

With hammer in hand, everything resembles a nail? Someone in the shop must be enamored with their “new toy” hydrodip machine.

How do we make this next build special? Hydrodip ALL THE THINGS in faux wood grain — absolutely everything that fits in our new machine!

Some nicely done custom flourishes on this build, but I suspect the flavor of the day OTT hydrodip treatment will be reversed back to chrome and real wood within a few years.

ran out of paint on the front air dam

Yeah, I'm usually a very tolerant car guy. It's yours, do as you please. Had me too until I saw the beltline trim wrapped in fake wood grain. Barf!!! Sorry. Take is off all the trim and I would like it better. Definitely an LA car says the boy from Hotlanta, GA.

I think it’s really cool. It’s unique, well executed, and I like it. I wouldn’t want it, but I appreciate the craftsmanship and innovation.

I actually like it - mostly.
For driving around in the traffic (I figure) of Los Angeles, an automatic makes sense... You can't always be out canyon carving.
And... having commuted for many years in both my 2002 and 997, sometimes you just want to give your left leg a rest.

While not all the styling bits are totally to my liking, overall it is a well put together car that makes a statement. And - in the crowd this car will habitate, I think it will be well received.
Wonder if RDJ will participate in any coupe events...??? LOL

I don’t mind the automatic either, I too get the SoCal driving.

Plus it is the ZF 4HP22 tranny used in the E24, that one has an extra gear (4th), so you get an overdrive that is lower revving than the 5-speed Getrag in 5th gear...
I do not think they used the electronic variant of the 4HP22 as I do not see the sports/manual/economy control switch...
