Hey guys, searched the forum, but I can't find the answer to this one.
Having my inner/outer seals fully repaired. Once that's done, what's the best method of securing the outer rocker cover to the sills? Understand the factory option was a load of self-tapers (I think). But I like the idea of rivnuts, that just feels more engineered and makes life easier to remove and reinstall the rocker cover, and surely less prone to rust? Thoughts, or am I overthinking this one.

Overthinking, I used black sheet metal screws that had an integral fixed washer.

The option from Chris makes most sense. Works. Will live for 50+ years.

Then again....
I'm all for overthinking. I've got to do it still, but I am leaning towards the Rivnuts. Over engineered perhaps, but (i think) better solution for rust prevention. Easier to remove, do that yearly clean, and reset the screws.
I'm not sure if there is space for the added thickness the rivnut needs though (for its ~1mm thick head)

I think it is a bit more fidely to get the rivnuts placed correctly though; getting the holes to line up that is.
I'll likely set the sill cover to its perfect final position, drill a pilot hole through both, then use that pilot hole to overbore to the rivnut size. That way the holes on both parts are perfectly aligned.
There are, originally, also 2 screws in each wheel arch, 1 up , 1 low.

Just make sure you use a something that allows you to easily remove later, cause if you ever put your car on BaT some 'e9 expert, who has no intention of bidding, is going to ask you to take off the rocker panel covers to show what's beneath. :)

Removing the rocker requires removing stainless trim and then door sill and then screws, a lot of work for little gain. I don’t know if there is enough room either.
