Has anyone had experience with Rogertii? He has some E9 door cards for $559 each, is this the going price for these or is there better value elsewhere? He also has C pillar roundels for $55.

I'm mainly looking for the cardboard cards. My vinyl is in good shape but I think I could buy new ones for less than having my upholstery guy work redo mine. How much do the C Pillars go for?

Your upholstery guy wants > $559 just to cut a couple pieces of masonite? I'd think you could find a local cabinetmaker or hobby woodworker who would do it for less. Fabricating the rigid part of a door panel isn't all that hard - the trickiest part is finding a saw blade that won't shred the edge of the masonite.

Others will say "don't use masonite, use ___", where ___ = plywood, fiberglass, .... Yes, other materials are more water-resistant than masonite. Usually the trade-off is water sensitivity versus the ability to use staples. I paint the masonite with Thompsons Water Seal to keep it from absorbing moisture and warping.

I'm not trying to take business away from rogertii, but spending $559 when you only need the masonite part seems sort of inefficient.

I would think shipping from rogertii to Australia would make this a no go. If the $559 includes shipping I think it's a bargain. If I remember correctly, new door cards are available, only in black, from BMW and have an MSRP of about $580 each. It might be worth checking with a local dealer after you factor in shipping from other sources.

As for C pillar trim, I think what you get now, even from the dealer, is not the original cloisonne. If you can find originals in good condition I bet they are a lot more than $55.

My trim guy has not given me a final estimate but historically has balanced his very high quality with glacial pace and responsiveness. I am thinking I will try and do this job myself assuming that as long as I'm careful with the removal of the current staples and chrome strip I can't do too much damage. In case I do, I'll be up a creek without blue doorcard paddles in a restoration about ready to finally roll. This has now become the clearest sign yet that I have e9-itis. I blame DQ for his excellent documentation for making me think I can actually do many of the same tasks.

DQ has the molds done, why not ask him to cut you a set?

It may help to use Bob Dylan's voice when you ask:

"..take heed of the stormy weather
and yes there is something you can send back to me
Spanish door cards of Spanish leather..."

Srennoc has them cut by computer

For less than 100 bucks.
3 layer composite I think.

This only for the card not the vinyl!

Arde,

I like Dylan but who would believe he is sitting at home while his gal travels the world on a sailing ship? This version is much better!
