Rubber Seal Placement?

It should fit on the horizontal metal lip at the top of the nose wall just in front of the radiator.

Part number 51216740185 is a door bottom seal. Part # 11 appears to be what Sven is referring to - fits below front edge of hood. About 4' long. Have one before me since i'm trying to source one myself.

John meant part # 51711810529, item #11 in the diagram. He bought some door seals at the same time and got confused. Trust me, it is only 8 inches long and looks nothing like the 4 foot long seal next to the radiator which is L shaped in profile. That seal is NLA although Carl Nelson has them. And the quantity required is 2, very strange, it must mount to the hood itself.

Attached is a photo of the seal in question. Sorry for the bad quality....taken from my blackberry.

That isn't bad, it's terrible John!

:)

I would describe it as looking like a rounded 8" extrusion that resembles a wiper blade but much thicker.

? what's the part #11

Chris--note the requirement for two pieces.

You may remember there are two of those parts needed, one for right and one for the left that fit in the respective outer corners of the horizontal underhood slots located just below the R/L corners of the windshield. Remember--we fashioned them for our cars from some standard stock I had on hand. They were often discarded by paint shops and then were very often overlooked during re-assembly and now NLA.

In the diagram it looks like that are installed by the the leading edge of the hood.
does anyone have a picture of it being installed?

Are these the seals in question? Tucked under the big seal in each corner under the windshield, one pic with the seal lifted up.

Hello

Mike is right, there are 2 bits -one on each side - to prevent water to enter the inner wing. As hood grilles are just over this place. I had the opportunity to buy them 3 years ago.
They often miss on the coupés .
It is true, their positioning on the parts catalogue is strange and confusing as the scale with other seals is not correct.
rgds.

Thanks everyone. Yes, that is the correct location. Now I need another one for the drivers side. Tight fit and had to install using a nylon bicycle tire iron.

Oh that rubber seal. I had a look at the ones on my 2000CS - same shape as phote but only 4" each side. I think it came that way. But then the gap in question on my car is only about 4" - just under firewall. Almost looks like it was designed for some other purpose.

so glad to have found this older thread, I finally know where those seals go!

My set came at about 6" long, just a bit longer than the gaps in those corners.

Yes so what I did was trim each bottom side that fits into the slot and left the top exposed side longer for an overlap. You may need to also trim a little on top to clear the fender curve. I have since removed these because I don't drive in the rain so I prefer to get some air down that cavity and not trap any moisture. If I were to go on a road trip, I'd put them in.
