gents,
shighland and i are roadtripping his coupe from sd to seattle. we leave friday morn, will be in pebble beach fri nite, golf sat morn, somewhere in oregon sat nite, and hopefully in seattle sunday.

just a fyi in case anybody wanted to meet us for a beer in pebble, or somewhere else along the gloriously unspectacular I-5.

Alan, sounds like fun! I strongly recommend taking the 101, not only is it a nicer route; but is cooler and has more places to pull over and get help in the event you experience mechanical problems. You will also enjoy seeing the ocean and will find better places to pull over and have lunch/beer.

Have a great trip and drive safely!
Mike

If ya come up I-5 on Saturday, I might be around for a rendezvous in the northstate CA. Happy to share a mind blowing detour if interested ;-)

I second the 101. Having done both over the years. Very nice once you get north of LA. You will encounter fewer trucks as well. I did the San Jose to San Diego 101 run last summer in the coupe by myself - 10 hours and one stiff backside.

The coupe they are driving is a beautiful granatrot CS - well worth a peek.

Yep. If 101 is familiar try Panoche Rd. north of Kettleman City. or 138 from Harris Ranch off I5. Roads less traveled sometimes are the most interesting.

Another Option

I had the good fortune to drive the HBChris NK in Targa CA 2013.

If you can get your northbound route to connect with CA-2 the Angeles Crest then onto the Angeles Forest Highway, up CA 166 to taft, 58, (right in here is Rt 229 and should not be missed for some serious twisties and whoopee doos!) 33, 178 to Atascadero, around Paso Robles then down to CA 1, passing Limekiln State Park, Big Sur to Monterey and onto 101 North near Watsonville.

I can scan the map and email to you if you want

And for those of us in Seattle...

We should get the group together for a few beers or such sometime soon. Summer is ticking!!!

Hi Alan,

Good luck on the trip, sounds like fun. I am guessing you will have some of the 101 already planned in the trip, so enjoy it, it really is a wonderful road......

Unfortunately, I leave for Europe on Sunday so will not be able to make the welcoming in Seattle. But if anybody is interested, I would look forward to a driving caravan with some other E9 owners in early June after I return.

Safe travels

Pete
