Can I get away with this? Damn screw bush will not retighten.
Am I asking for a disaster if I leave like this?

I start to round it off and I don't want to do anymore damage

Interesting question. I am not sure that bushing is meant to be adjusted. The spline is there to allow the forward shaft and the aft shaft to move axially relative to one another as the suspension moves. I suspect that gap will close up when the wheels are on the ground.

I am guessing, but I suspect it is the way the inner spline is attached to the tubular drive shaft. It is probably staked using a punch or other tool, which is why it would not budge.

I'm just going to let it ride, pray for no issues. Ready to get driving again
Probably OK.

I suspect maybe it is a left handed thread too, depends on which way the driveshaft spins, but it is almost certainly opposite, and has been tightened by thousands of high torque cycles as the car has been driven.

Cool, thanks guys. I think we ought to be OK here. My new CSB could be pushed forward a touch more, may by 1/8 inch, but it spins freely with no off sound. Almost put back together, just waiting on my neighbor to weld up my exhaust and new blue brake hose to arrive. I'll now need to rebuild my clutch slave as it sprank a leak when trying to bleed. Bit good news I had a NOS ready in my parts bin
