We've been trying to secure upholstery for our seats and are having a hard time finding the right color. We've looked at World Upholstery, GAHH and a German supplier but the samples they supply don't seem to match our original leather. The BMW literature suggests that the color might be "L 0303". Has anyone had any luck finding this color leather?

This is world upholstery tan ordered a year ago if it helps.

That color does resemble that of ours. I don't see the color "Tan" on their website though.

People use Gobi although BMW never used that name, it is a tan.
We did get a sample of that color and it doesn't seem to be the right shade.

World and GAHH both have poor substitutes for BMW leather and vinyl, most appear to be MB colors.

Thanks for those examples. It looks like there are few options that are close to the original "L 0303".

In my humble opinion, as long as the front and rear seats match each other and are somewhat close in color with the door panels, I would not be overly concerned with getting a perfect match with the door panels. If you personally like one that is a bit lighter or darker, consider going with what you like best. I was also surprised how much hides varied as to texture and softness. Be careful picking from the small sample provided. I thought I had a good match. When the actual hides came they were much lighter in color than I thought they would be. I was lucky they took them back, and on my second try I got the color I desired. The second set of hides were also much nicer and softer to the touch.
Thank you for this thread! I’ve been pulling my hair out. I have a 74 and none of the samples I’ve gotten were good matches either (I’ll post some from the zoom-zooming eBay seller as well). It’s almost like the US-bound later cars used a unique color from the Euro models.

Does it have to be a company that supplies a full kit? If not, I would check SMS Auto Upholstery and Veterans. Also KMH in Germany.
Yes. I found it to be the best color match to the original saddle pigskin on my 72. I believe the leather in the 74's is a little different (more golden as you mentioned).
