I was getting nowhere trying to separate the buckets from the headlights frame. Read of lot of threads on the subject and finally came up with this Macgyver solution.

Take a piece a flat piece of steel and bend it in a U shape. Drill two holes at the top so you can insert a metal bar of some sort. Screwdrivers are ok for the holes where you have enough room but not for others so I ended up using a round file.

The role of that file is to act as a holder so you can band on the screw and get it out. Secure the U shaped holder in a vise and pass the steel bar between the screw and its holder. Use a hammer and a blunt chisel to bang the thing out. Not very delicate but it works.

Photo 1: U shaped steel with round file
Photo 2: Put that in a vise and insert the round steel between screw and its holder
Photo 3: Using a chisel or a screwdriver, bang the thing out.

have you thought about first pulling the springs? as i remember, there are 2 springs that set the buckets onto the frame ... when you turn the adjusters, they keep the tension set. if you remove the springs, the bucket becomes separate from the frame.

Yes, the spring were removed first. But they don't really afffect the bolts in any significant way. Those bolts are clamped in there extremely tight.
