After a long search the NOS no-logo wood knob arrived from Germany today (along with some german candies thrown in by the seller) and it looks super nice. Here are the knobs lined up for comparison. Left to right: leather & logo (which came with my car when I got it), wood & logo (from Germany), the NOS wood no-logo, and a reproduction no-logo I bought from Germany a while back:
You can see the original ones are the same height and shape with pronounced dome, the repro is a little shorter with slightly smaller circumference of the top.
The new acquisition pictured in the car, it matches the wood nicely and I will roll with this one for the foreseeable future. I'll be selling the repro for a bargain if anyone wants it, its a nice knob.
Thanks for the line up Steve. The third one indeed is bigger and that maybe is the difference I notice when looking inside cars that still have it installed.
I'll add the knob that came on my 2800 CS to the collection. It had a BMW logo on it but it kept falling off and was pitted. I stuck this Alpina stick on here because it fit.
This is an old knob. At least from the 80's if not older. It has a similar profile to the leather wrapped knob and the logo area is fairly deep. Perhaps someone removed the leather. The hole for the logo is 31mm.
A fellow sent me a couple knobs to replace the leather on. Im not exactly sure which cars they were used on but they look like a match to some shown here. One was taller than the other one. I also was provided with a new shift pattern badge to change out one of them.
