Here's my dilemma. I've had my car for about four months; and have done the following:

Battery to starter wiring replaced
Battery to alternator wiring replaced
Battery ground cleaned up
Cleaned up battery tray; painted
Black kidney grills
Cleaned up under hood rubber seals
Nardi steering wheel
Door arm pull brackets added, covers replaced
Door card window blanks added
Ebrake upgrade installed; ebrake adjusted
Rear license plate bracket upgraded
Hood Roundel replaced
Front light trim cleaned up
Replaced broken side light front
Replaced broken side light rear
Replaced rear left light socket (melted)
Rewired rear light socked ground
Rewired rear light (melted)
Replaced license plate lights (melted)
Rewired license plate lights (new rubber surrounds)
Removed radio wiring
Reglued glove box, reinstalled
Glued fuse door, repaired fuse door closure, reinstalled
Glued panel under steering wheel, reinstalled
Removed front speakers and wiring
Rear window defroster switch replacement
Repaired main light switch wiring
Repaired main light switch
Repaired A/C switch wiring
Repaired starter relay wiring
Clean up ground near fuse box
All new fuses
Replaced broken window switch
Replaced glove box light
Replaced melted hood light (clean up switch and ground)
Repaired left front side light circuit (cleaned up ground)
Replaced headlights with Euro H1s
Replaced broken exhaust hangers
Replaced spark plug wires (two broken sockets)
Replaced ignition coil
New spark plugs
Replaced a/c condenser mount
Cleaned up spare tire well, primed and painted
Upgraded trunk floor with used parts
Dome light repaired
Seats removed, Leatherique treated, greased rails
Seat belts removed
Cleaned up front floor under carpet, POR 15, soundproofed
New screws on entry trim both sides
New front control arms
New front tie rod ends
New front sway bar, bushings, and dog bones
New rear sway bar, bushings and dog bones
Carl Nelson front springs
New shock mounts and spring pads
Front camber plates
Cleaned up fender wells; touched up undercoating
Removed window tint (wing windows only so far)

I know, I need to kick it into gear a little bit, but I also need to maintain my day job.

Anyway, I have recently acquired the following:

Getrag 265, bell housing, pedals
Cooling system replacement parts (water pump, tstat, hoses)
New belts
Rear bumper
Triple weber carbs, Korman intake, assorted fuel line parts
tii brake booster
Electric fuel pump, start up controller, relay and kill switch
New distributor
Extension fuse box and relays
New front seat belts

On the way:

Cocomats
Coupe King Exhaust
New front window motors and switches

So, the exhaust has holes in it, thus I really should prioritize the exhaust. Then again, the automatic is so out of character for this car; it would be nice to get the tranny swap done. But the carbs; I love sound of those carbs. And, I really should get the windows to roll up reliably as its getting a little cool this time of year. But the window tint is pretty cheesy and really should be removed. And not having seat belts is a little bit of a problem. And I don't have the rear Carl Nelson springs in yet.

Oh dear.

carbon monoxide could kill you so, hmmm maybe the exhaust system first. Then when you work with the carbs, the back pressure from the new exhaust system will be consistent.

exhaust
distributor
seat belts
5 speed
carbs....

safety first :)

In a few short months what you have accomplished takes many coupe owners years, literally!

However, unless you have a 74 the first thing I would do is put the correct bright kidney on your coupe as it came from the factory. The rest is secondary.

;)

Boy, it appears E9s have electrical issues. Who'd have thunk?
Good work, keep at it.

Same as Stan, except I'd do seat belts first..

How are the brake lines?

OLD perhaps.

synergy

It's a good thing your windows don't go up because you have a leaky exhaust. Otherwise, you might put yourself in a dangerous situation.

Get 4 large jack stands and take a deep breath (e.g. get ready for the deep dive). You seem both motivated and mechanically proficient, so it might not take as long as you fear.

Given how much work you've done, how about temporarily wrapping the exhaust with exhaust-repair tape and drive another month. Then up on the stands...

I'll get right on that. Immediately after I reinstall those aluminum spacers from the top of the struts that were used to raise the entire front of the car so as to meet US headlight rules.

Actually, the electrical issues came from the clown who installed the stereo for the prior owner. He tapped into a lighting circuit, pulled the 5 amp fuse and inserted a 40 amp fuse in its place. So, crank up the tunes and don't worry about the failing lights and that burning smell.

Good question on the brake lines. Prior owner had the rubber hoses replaced, but the metal lines may be original.

Chris, Terry is not much on body work but if he did the brakes (which he did) then I'd bet they were done right. I'd go with Stan's short list. Of course the great convenience in working on these cars is that there is so much to do you can start just about anywhere.

PS have they noticed you have not been at work for the last 4 months?

Hmmm. Perhaps there is a reason why my boss and my wife are asking me what I've been up to these days.

Progress

Windows work again!, seat belts are in and my exhaust has arrived (but for the two manifold gaskets). The front grill is still black, however.
