Hi Folks,

I have a functioning Bosh fuel pump for a CSI/CSL. Keep it in your trunk as a backup, or have it rebuilt (PM me for details). They are very easy to remove but the rubber hangers are very fragile.

Full disclosure, the pump was seized when I first bench tested it. I removed the four small screws on the end cap. I pulled the rotor and five pistons. I cleaned the resin off the parts and reassembled. The motor hums along now and I visually confirmed that thenshaft spins. I can text you a video if desired.

I can also share some pics of the internals if anyone is curious.

These cost close to $700 new. Don't ask me why. Other than the special plug they don’t seem particularly special.

Here is the answer to the question that nobody asked. :D

These pics are actually post cleaning assembly displayed in reverse order. The rotor and cylinders were coated in varnish and the inline fuel filter was very dirty. I soaked the internals in solvent (with seal removed) overnight.

Note the location of the inlet tube compared to the power connector:

Bench test. Also bench test while the cap is off. If it works with the cap off but not with the cap on, try easing up on the screws. Go way loose and test. If it runs slowly torque them down and continue to test.

Nice! I have a spare too that mostly works, but sometimes no. Probably could use Mark's reconditioning for it to totally work all the time.

If anyone needs one, let me know.
 
I also recommend that you run some gas and fuel injector in cleaner through it. Fill up a gallon of gas in a five gallon bucket and add some injector cleaner. Run the intake hose and output hose into the bucket. Use some leads on the motor to keep the alligator clips away from the gasoline. Run it for as long as needed to clean the internals.
 
The phasing/clocking of the cap and the impeller assembly controls flow. Should be tested for flow and pressure once reassembled.

Thanks Luis. The cap is phased properly as mentioned in the pics above. The impeller parts are all symmetrical. Maybe I’ll do that last test this week before shipping to document the process.
 
Sounds good; I should have been more specific. The clocking is obvious but not that there is some play of the cover whithin the screwholes and that regulates flow to an extent.

Ahh I see! Yes there is a lot of play with the cap. I’ll test and report back.
 
Well I’m glad that I went through the extra step. The pump was definitely blocked but after a minute
or so things cleared up.

I used just a bit of Chevron Techron with some gas. Clocking the face didn’t make much of a noticeable difference but no actual measurements were taken.

Gas before - the Techron is transparent. I used a torch to warm up the ends of the tube so they fit over the nipples (don’t do this near the gas :)):

Gas during. The clear tubing is so damn cooled that I had to hold it down with a plastic stick.
