Hi guys,
While the car is for sale, I am not really trying to sell it to any of you. You are my friends, and you never sell a car to a friend. But since the car is for sale, I figured that it would be in bad taste to not at least mention it here.
Many of you know that last year I started getting some pressure from my wife to move the car along. She's been very gracious about the project. But in full transparency, I am ten years this side of the stage of my life where I deserve to be spending $155k building the ultimate vintage BMW hot rod. I've got two kids getting closer to College, and unless they suddenly become very good at Football or Basketball, I'm facing a huge expense there. I've got a company that I need to invest some money into in order to retain my majority share because of a small internal raise we are doing. And the list goes on.
The point is, I intentionally put my head in the sand on what this car would cost me to build. I didn't predict 24 months and $60k in metal work (which is cheap for the hours spent). I didn't see $4000 in front fenders. And that's all before the Tesla expenses. But it has been an AMAZING ride. I think of it like climbing Mount Everest. People spend years preparing, and incredible expense to do it. All for the journey, and to conquer it. They don't get to sell it at the end and get their money back. I don't expect to get my $155k back (Though many have told me that on BAT I could today- even without it being completed). I've started getting offers yesterday for as much as $95k, then this morning that is starting to go up. So to get the gratification of conquering my Everest as it were, then to get back a good amount of that back- I just can't complain.
I plan to do another one in a few years once my kids get their full rides, I sell my software company, and I am living the way I only pretend to today
Assuming that the car does sell, I'll try to stick around here. I'll be helping @jefflit complete his Tesla coupe this summer/fall and I'll be start keeping my eyes open for another roller in a few years to ruin with Tesla power.
Thanks guys!
Paul
