Did they reproduce the key from the code, or a key you had? In other words if another of us wanted a key(s), would we send a code or key? There should be some verification that the key or code holder actually has rights to the car to which the key belongs... may be you skipped that..?

You raise a very good point about security and verifying ownership which I didn't address in my original post.
I physically had to go to the dealership and show my driver's license and the registration for the car in my name before they ordered the new key. I offered to send copies by email but they needed me to prove my identity in person. That security precaution makes sense otherwise I could get a key for my neighbor's car if I had his key code.
