Speaking of Accelerator pedals

So the top part of my accelerator pedal has broken again (the part that attaches to the rod coming from the firewall) This little rubber bridge from the pedal to the rod seems pretty delicate as they age. It was broken on my car when I bought it and while removing one from one of my parts cars I broke another one and now a 3rd used one has broken.

Before inventing a new mouse trap I thought I would check to see if anybody has come up with a fix (short of replacing it with a new one at $100+ for what should be a $35 part) Seems to function with it broken but have to research if safety is an issue.

Thanks for any input

I gave up on mine.

I sanded the back of the pedal flat and made up a little alloy tube roller that slid over the part of the accelerator (where the bit that keep breaking attaches) and held this in place with the cir-clip, the rubber pedal now just rests against the linkage part and as you depress the pedal it rolls nice and smoothly on the tube I mentioned above.
I my case I had to remount / move side ways the rubber pedal on the floor so that the edge of this slides up the side of the accelerator rod when you depress the pedal.

Works a treat

Surely you've seen the other thread, and the link to the 2002 guys solution, here it is again:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/_/technic.../gas-pedal-hinge-to-replace-the-evil-nubs-r80

Although it mostly addresses the "nubs" that form the pedal hinge, you'll see that the linkage pedal is fitted with a roller bearing (size is given) which can bear either on the back of the pedal (once ground smooth). The "U" shaped retainer for the roller bearing isn't necessary IMHO, do what works for you.

Obviously used pedals you've sourced are on their last legs... why not try what is suggested there? Seems simple enough, and beats placing yet another used pedal, your fourth if I've not lost count.

Thanks Honolulu I missed that thread in my search of the archives.. didn't think to add "evil nubs" to it.
Almost looks like a good use for the pilot bearing I just pulled out although not quite the right size.

Thanks to everybody else as well for the input.

Cheers
