Hi guys, I have just bought camber adjustable upper mounts and coil over conversion set for the standard struts but am after advice on what springs to order, so, what are you guys using? Please quote poundage AND length as half the information is useless.

Thanks in advance

Gary

From the Ground Control website "Desired Spring Rate (If unsure of rate give brief description of expected usage)"
I was hoping for feedback from members based on their own experience.

Gary,

From my invoice:
GC 200.64.67: 8 inches long, 2 1/2 I.D., 380 lbs/inch, front; Height Adjuster Conversion kit, Rear BMW 2002/E9 #2005.03 1 297.00 297, Springs 8"/5"OD/400#

They felt a bit firm at first compared to CN Springs, but the ride seems to have softened a bit and they feel perfect now. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Hi Gary. I'm currently running 7" 350 lb springs in the front of the Bav (2.5 ID). There is a pic attached of both 6" and 7" ride height. I tried 400 lb 6" springs and felt it was too stiff and probably not leaving enough margin for shock compression (I was afraid the shock was bottoming out before the spring was). After that I tried 7" 400 lb and it was also too stiff and the car was a bit higher than I liked. I settled on 7" 350 lb springs as this was a decent ride and the softer spring allowed the car to settle a bit lower than the 400 lb spring. The pictures are with the spring at the lowest setting which has the perch at about the level of the stock perch weld bead (my lower perch base actually sits on the weld bead from the stock setup). Springs are Eibach.

Barry,

i will be interested in your experiences with the GC system. all of the standard springs for a coupe are straight springs - i have grown to love progressive springs ... and one of the only ways to do that is with coilovers. can you send me a PM with contact info and the specifics of what you bought. i sent an email to GC a week or so ago ... and haven't heard anything.

thanks
scott

Sorry my writeup about the coilover parts did not survive the site migration. :(

yep - my thoughts about the progressive springs in front + standard springs in the back didn't make it either.

Well I have settled on 8" 375lb with a 4" 50lb assister spring. Hopefully I shouldn't be too far off with this set up but at least if its not right the springs aren't too expensive. Shame you can't get 2.25 springs in there cos they can be bought for loose change!

Should be a decent setup but you may find it a bit tall (depending on your desire for ride height). As for springs, don't settle for cheap springs. I tried to order a set of cheap springs and they had way too many coils. So although they were the same spring rate that I wanted, they did not have any useful travel before the spring bottomed out. I went with Eibach as they offer fewer coils with the desired rate so that I could get full suspension travel.

Good luck. We will be interested in your "feeling" of the spring rate. Assister springs are a good idea so that the springs stay seated when you jack up the car...good option, I don't have them but wish that I did every time I bring the car back off the stands...which is fairly frequently

Thanks Drew, I'm going to remove all traces of the old spring perch so I can drop the threaded tube further down. I can't wait to try this setup but am going to have to as my upper mounts aren't here yet.
Regards
Gary

Hi Gary. It's true that you will be able to drop the lower spring perch down a bit, but only slightly because even though the springs are much smaller in OD, they (and the new perches) may still rub on the tires (assuming you are using a relatively wide wheel with 13-20 mm offset) as you go lower.

I would suggest trimming off the old perches while leaving their base weld in place so that you can set the new perches on there to check fitment. It may save you from having to re-weld the new perches on in just about the very same position - at least that was my observation.

Update :-)
I picked up some Eibach spring, Ground Control sold me an off brand spring... not happy with the way they fit into there cup.
These Eibach springs fit perfect. 5" x 7" 600lbs

I'll be putting them in soon and will post the results w/ a pic

hey Barry, looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing about your experiences with the GC setup overall. seems like a good way to go about it.

Barry, i like the ride height. so which RS wheels are those ... they look deeper than normal
