Stahl Headers

Friends,

I have a set that I can use to clone in SS, and am happy to arrange a group buy on these. We've done this with the header for the S14 that is also NLA. Doing these in steel tubing is IMO a waste of money, SS will last far longer at just a small incremental cost.
I'd need a minimum of 5 committed to proceed.

Guesstimate of price if you get 5 to sign up?

Hello all,
Say, I'd be interested in getting in on the group buy / initial run of the SS headers. Curious the thoughts on pipe diameter, though. Given the stock M30 head ports, I understand 1 3/8" pipe inlets fit/work well for most engines. And I believe the Korman "high performance" version was 1 1/2" diameter, and required some modifications to a five speed transmission bracket and possibly the engine casing?.? I have a 3.5L engine with triple Weber 45's, but still have a concern over too large a pipe.

Header diameter relative to your motor + head build.

1 3/8-1.5" good for motors under 250hp

1.5"+ for motors over 250hp.

Also consider what cam and valve/headwork has been done....

Just my 2cents...hth

I've been looking into this also. Good article from the Roundel below!

Shannon - Yes, that's what I was landing on - primary tube size of 1.375" or 1.5". Which one? Not sure.
Mario - Please do let me know how the prospect of running a quantity of these headers in stainless steel. I'd be keen on participating. Perhaps if enough of us are interested, economies of scale would benefit the group. ;)

The difference in area between a 1-1/2" tube and a 1-3/8" tube is about 20%.

One of the largest errors street enthusiasts make is in running too large of a primary pipe, and too large of a collector. For example, NHRA and IHRA Stock teams using Burns’ headers in H/SA in traditional small-block powered musclecars are running 1.5-inch diameter primary pipes- much smaller than many street machines are trying to use.

Nope. Jere retired over a year ago, maybe 2 ... I don't remember. I think it's two. The only place that might still have some is Korman. But if they do, hold on to your butt ... They charged 1700+ bucks when stahl was still in business as they bought them, but a ceramic coating on them and made a nice profit. To my knowledge, nobody bought the jigs or designs for their bmw line. Such a missed opportunity. Hard to believe that the website is still operational. I just saw on the home page that ACP bought some of the jigs ... Just not sure which. You might want to give them a call

Guys, Jere Stahl died last June. That is why they shut down.
