Know how to do it, just cannot get to the top for adjustment. Best approach? Do you remove the brake booster and come from above or is there a way from below?

Use your screwdriver from the side into the slot.

Don't over tighten the adjustment screw it can hamper steering wheel return when you make a turn.

I fabricated a screwdriver but I cannot get the screw free from the nut so both turn...thus cannot tighten the screw more than it is. I sprayed BP blaster in there and no effect. I have done this with both my e24's...where the top of the box is real easy access.

thin vice grips

i had this same prob, and was able to break free by using a pair of thin vice grips to grab the shaft, and box wrench on nut - buggers up the shaft a little, but not bad.

So- when's the last time you bled your brakes? Maybe it's time.
I would try a Heyco thin 17mm and your homemade screwdriver first.

DOOOOO. I keep forgetting the toolkit that came with the car. I assume the 17mm is in there. That is the problem I have been having, wrench will fit and screwdriver fill fit but not both.
